We are in the process of mixing album #2. Album #1, titled “Free Thyself From the Fetters of This World”, is hoped to be released in October 2011.
Here is a recording of a song called ‘My Calamity’ performed at Parc des Amériques in Montréal on June 19th, 2011. The players are Neah Kelly on cello, Alden Penner on guitar and singing, and Jamie Thompson on suitcase and percussion.
“O SON OF MAN! My calamity is My providence, outwardly it is fire and vengeance, but inwardly it is light and mercy. Hasten thereunto that thou mayest become an eternal light and an immortal spirit. This is My command unto thee, do thou observe it.”
-Bahá’u'lláh, #51 The Arabic Hidden Words
Recorded from the output of a small portable radio brought in studio, this is a very noisy document of a performance and interview on CJAD radio in Montreal between the group The Hidden Words and Anne Lagacé Dowson.
This post is coming from Bamako, Mali, where Alden Penner is currently living and serving in the field of Baha’i pioneering.
Toumani Seribé is the nephew of my next door neighbor in Kalaban Koura, south Bamako. He is from the village where he farms and was in town visiting his uncle for a few days. This was recorded as night fell and the young gathered around us, next to the goats. It seems he had come to the city to get a microphone and amplifier for his self-made 6-string kora. The strings are made of nylon fishing line; the neck, a broomstick. Accompanying him on six string guitar is the author.
